In an era defined by rapid information growth, the shift from teacher-led instruction to learner autonomy has become a necessity for academic and professional success. The research categorizes various models of autonomy, including self-directed, project-based, and resource-driven learning, analyzing how each type contributes to the development of critical thinking. The study highlights that successful independence is achieved through the integration of metacognitive awareness, precise goal-setting, and the disciplined use of digital tools. Furthermore, the findings suggest that independent learning is not the absence of guidance, but rather a structured process of “guided autonomy” where students take responsibility for their own cognitive growth. By fostering self-regulation and time-management skills, educators can prepare learners for the complexities of lifelong learning in a globalized world.
