Abstract

This article presents an analysis of hidden meanings and metaphorical expressions in riddles, one of the ancient genres of oral folk creativity. Metaphor is interpreted as the main artistic device that conveys information indirectly and symbolically within riddles. Furthermore, the structure of the hidden semantic layer and the functions of the subject, object, and predicate that shape it are analyzed through illustrative examples.
