Abstract

The Grammar Translation Method is one of the oldest and most traditional approaches in foreign language teaching. It focuses on grammar rules, translation exercises, reading comprehension, and vocabulary memorization. Although modern communicative approaches emphasize speaking and interaction, the Grammar Translation Method still plays an important role in English language teaching, especially in academic environments. This article discusses the history, principles, advantages, disadvantages, and classroom applications of the Grammar Translation Method in English teaching. It also examines the impact of this method on learners’ grammar knowledge, reading skills, and translation abilities. The study concludes that despite criticism, the Grammar Translation Method remains useful when combined with modern communicative techniques.
