Old English Literature refers to the body of written works produced in the English language from the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons around 450 AD until the Norman Conquest in 1066, and a little beyond. It represents the earliest phase of English literary history and is mostly composed in Old English (also called Anglo-Saxon). This literature reflects a warrior society with strong ties to pagan and Christian traditions, blending oral storytelling, heroic poetry, religious writings, and riddles.
