The Dynamics of Slang in Youth Culture

Slang constitutes one of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving components of language, particularly within youth culture. It serves not only as a linguistic phenomenon but also as a social marker reflecting identity, group affiliation, resistance, and creativity. This article explores the dynamics of slang usage among young people, focusing on its sociolinguistic functions, mechanisms of formation, cultural motivations, and the influence of digital media on its dissemination. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach, drawing on examples from contemporary English youth discourse. The findings demonstrate that slang plays a crucial role in constructing youth identity, reinforcing in-group solidarity, and responding to sociocultural change. Moreover, the article highlights the transient nature of slang and its continuous interaction with mainstream language.
