Abstract

Bilingualism has become one of the most important linguistic and social phenomena in the modern world. In the era of globalization, migration, and technological development, the ability to communicate in two or more languages plays a significant role in education, employment, and intercultural communication. This paper examines bilingualism from a sociolinguistic perspective, focusing on its cognitive, cultural, and communicative functions in contemporary society. The research analyzes how bilingualism influences identity formation, social integration, language behavior, and educational development. The study also discusses challenges related to language interference and cultural adaptation. The findings indicate that bilingualism enhances cognitive flexibility, communication skills, and intercultural awareness while contributing to linguistic diversity in society.
